Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, is located in the north east of Hunan province, the lower reaches of Xiangjiang River and the Western Margin of Xiangliu Basin. A cradle of the ancient Chu and Xiang civilizations rooted in central China, Changsha was the hometown of many great figures in both ancient and modern history of China, including Qu Yuan, Jia Yi, Zhu Xi, Zeng Guofan, Mao Zedong and Liu shaoqi. The city boasts countless discoveries of historical and cultural values. For example, unearthed here was the world-famous Mawangdui Tomb of the Han Dynasty, in which a female mummy and her jewelry, which are 2,000 years old, were discovered. Recently, 170,000 bamboo sticks that were used for printing books were found in an an cient tomb in Changsha. This discovery, harking back to the period from 220 to 280, is regarded as one of the most important archaeological discoveries in China so far. Changsha is also famous for being the home of Yuelu Shuyuan (an academic institution) which was established about 1,000 years ago. The Yuelu Academy, located at the foot of Yuelu Mountain, is a symbol of Hunan culture and education. Numerous celebrities emerged in the history, leaving numerous historical and cultural relics, becoming the first batch of national famous historical and cultural cities.
Orange Islet,lying on Xiangjiang River in Changsha. The length of this islet form north to south is about 5 kilometers and the width is around 100 meters. It looks a colorized ribbon with a unique charming appearance. It has been famous for the high-class oranges from Tang Dynasty, more than 1000 years ago. When Mao Zedong studied in the Hunan First Pedagogic institute in his youth, he often went to the Orange Islet for swimming and discussing national affairs with his schoolfellows. In 1925, Mao Zedong wrote “Qingyuan Spring Changsha”, which won universal praise, to express his lofty emotion of liberating our whole country. Orange Islet Park was built on this islet in 1961. In 2001, its name was changed as the Orange Islet Scenic Spot of Yuelu Mountain Scenery of Changsha. It owns several previous views, such as the fables of poems and words, the Odd to range Pavilion and a group of brass statue of revolutionary heroes and so on. It was chosen as “the best park” in Hunnan Province, the four ‘A’ “travelling place” China (4A is the highest level in of Chinese park at present) and the national key scenic spot. The beautiful and peaceful surroundings turn within different seasons, and the best scene is the “yellow oranges and green tangerines” in autumn. When the summer begins, a weeping willow waves in mild wind, lots of swimmers come here continuously.
Mawangdui Han Tomb, located in Changsha, is the tomb of Changsha Prime Minister, Li Cang, and his family in the early western Han Dynasty. From 1972 to 1974, archaeologists excavated three tombs of the western Han Dynasty here. The structure of the tomb is magnificent and complex. The wood coffin is filled with charcoal on the sides and the upper part. There are lots of funerary goods in the tombs. More than 3,000 relics including silk products, silk manuscripts, silk paintings, lacquerware, pottery, bamboo slips, seals, clay seals, bamboo and wood ware, agricultural and livestock products, and Chinese herbal medicines have been unearthed. In addition, a well-preserved female corpse was also unearthed from the tomb, as well as a silk copy of the earliest prescription book "52 sick prescriptions", which can be seen so far in China.
Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area, Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area is located in Yuelu district, Changsha, Hunan Province. It is 300.8 meters above sea level and covers an area of 35.20 square kilometers, the last peak of South Yue Hengshan among 72 peak, located in the Juzizhou Tourist Area, for the city mountain type scenic spot, is one of the four great maple resorts in China. Yuelu Mountain, located in the national first batch of historical and cultural city of Changsha Xiangjiang River West Bank, in accordance with four core scenic areas: the river city, the existing Lu mountain, Juzizhou, Yuelu Academy, Xinmin society so that it is the world's rare set of "mountain, water, city, state," in the integration of national AAAAA level scenic spots, national key scenic area, Hunan culture base and patriotism education demonstration base.
Yuelu Academy, Yuelu academy is one of the four famous academies in china, and it was established by Zhudong, magistrate of Tanzhou prefecture in 976a.d at the time of northern song dynasty. The academy accepted disciples throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was only in 1903 that the academy was transformed from a school of traditional confucian learning to an insitute of higher learning and in 1926 it was officially named hunan university.
Tianji Mountain National Forest Park, Tianji Mountain National Forest Park, also known as hunan forest botanical garden, is located in Dongjing Town, Yuhua district, Changsha, Hunan Province. It covers an area of 140 hectares, with mountains and valleys, flat grasslands, open slopes and rippling lakes. The forest coverage rate is over 85%.There are Cherry Garden, Laurel Garden, Tea Garden, Bamboo Garden, Magnolia Garden, Cuckoo Garden, Plum Garden and Flowers Bonsai Garden.
Transportation
Airport
Changsha's Civil Airport has Changsha Huanghua International Airport, Datuopu Airport. Among them, Changsha Huanghua International Airport is located in the eastern suburbs of Huanghua town, Changsha county about 22 kilometers from the city with Changsha airport expressway and Changyong expressway direct. The airport provides direct flights to 75 major cities in China and overseas cities such as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Seoul, busan and Osaka. In early 2009, direct flights were launched to Taipei, Singapore and Kaohsiung.
Highway
By the end of 2010, the length of expressways in Changsha had reached 15,306.54 km, and the density of expressways had reached 129.51 km / 100 km2, of which the total length of expressways was 286.94 km.In addition, there are 3 national roads, 14 provincial roads and 106 county roads, with a total mileage of 12,346.90 km. The expressways connecting and running through Changsha are Changsha-Hong Kong-Macao, Changyong, Changji, Changzhang, Changtan-west, Changsha ring Expressway, Airport and Changzhu-Zhuzhou Expressway, etc. Changsha is connected by 106, 107 and 319 national roads.
Railway
Changsha is a national transportation hub. The Changsha-Guangzhou Railway runs through the north and south of the city, and the Shanghai-Kunming Railway connects the east and west. The Changsha-Guangzhou High-speed Railway meets the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway at Changsha south Railway Station. In addition, there is a connection between Changsha and Changde Shimen-the Shichang Railway. The Chongqing - Changsha - Xiamen Railway will be developed from Changsha West Railway Station.
Water Transport
Changsha Port can connect the Yangtze River to the sea, and has navigation with Nanjing, Shanghai, Lianyungang and other ports along the Yangtze River. Changsha Terminal Transport Center every day ferry passengers to Yiyang, Tianjin, Maocaojie, Changde, Moutao street, Xiangtan, Xiangyin, Yueyang and other places. In addition, Changsha has the Xiangjiang River thousand tonnage class channel and has the national biggest inland river main hub port-the Xia Ning New Port. The first and second phases have been completed, with a port handling capacity of over 11 million tons, including 360,000 teus of international containers and 3.5 million tons of heavy groceries.
Subway
Changsha rail transit includes the subway, maglev, intercity railway and so on. Under construction are Line 3, Line 5 and Line 6. According to the overall urban planning and comprehensive transportation planning of Changsha, Changsha urban rail transit network consists of 12 lines with a total length of about 456 kilometers, with 333 stations, including 45 transfer stations, and a density of 0.6 km/km2 in the central urban area. Among them, lines 1 to 6 are the backbone lines along the main passenger flow corridor of the city, lines 7 to 10 are urban supplementary lines, and lines 11 and 12 are urban express lines. It is expected that in 2020, Changsha rail transit mileage will reach 234.3 km, by then, Changsha urban public transport accounted for 35% of the total mode of travel, rail transport accounted for 40% of the public transport.
